Email Hoaxes
- Neiman Marcus Cookie Recipe - This person says they were cheated by Neiman Marcus for a cookie recipe, so they're sharing the recipe with as many people as they can.
- Email Trackers - Microsoft and Disney are both beta-testing an e-mail tracker and will send you money if you forward this e-mail. The Gap is testing an e-mail tracker and will send you a gift certificate. The Red Cross is using its e-mail tracker and will donate money for some poor kid's operation or to raise a fund for an orphan.
- Here's how it works. Send $5 to the five people on the list or to some address.
- Tax or long-distance charges on e-mail - You got a forwarded e-mail from your friend that says you will soon be charged for your long-distance e-mails.
- Take action against Madalyn Murray O'Hare. She may be bad, but these emails are often way out of date, or outright hoaxes.
- Most virus warnings are also hoaxes. Some even have instructions for you check for the virus and remove it (in reality, you're removing something that's supposed to be on your computer).
