Red Band Baking Powder Biscuits

Prep Time: 30 min

2 cups AP Flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 to 3/4 cups milk
  1. Heat oven to 450F.
  2. In large bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt; mix well.
  3. With pastry blender or fork, cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stirring with fork, add enough milk until mixture leaves sides of bowl and forms a soft, moist dough.
  5. On floured surface, toss dough lightly until no longer sticky.
  6. Roll orpress dougn to 1/2 inch thickness.
  7. Cut with floured 2 inch round cutter.
  8. Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
  9. Bake for 8-12 minutes or until light golden brown.
  10. Serve warm.

Makes 12 biscuits

Variations...

Buttermilk Biscuits
Add 1/4 teaspoon baking soda to flour. Substitute buttermilk for milk.
Cheese Biscuits
Add 4 oz. (1 cup) shredded Cheddar cheese to flour-shortening mixture.  Bake on greased cookie sheet.
